Phil Foden has been named PFA Young Player of the Year for the second successive season.

The England international joins an illustrious line of players to have won back-to-back Young PFA winners including City’s Lauren Hemp along with Dele Alli, Wayne Rooney, Robbie Fowler and Ryan Giggs.

Retaining the prestigious PFA award comes on the back of another stellar season for the 22-year-old, who was a key figure in the Premier League title success.

All told, Foden made 45 appearances across all competitions, finishing the campaign with 14 goals and 11 assists.

The Academy graduate also once again demonstrated his versatility and tactical flexibility which has seen him deployed on either flank, as a false nine or in midfield all to great effect.

Voted for by his fellow professionals, retaining the PFA Young Player of the Award recognises Foden’s sustained excellence throughout the campaign.

It’s another notable double following hard on the heels of him having been named Premier League Young Player of the Season for a second successive campaign.

And Foden revealed how proud and honoured he was to have received the award once again

“I'm really honoured to be honest, especially to win it back-to-back. It shows that I've come a long way this year with the consistency of the game, and I’m really pleased to win it again,” said Foden.

“All the best players in the world have got to show consistency and keep performing at the higher level, and this year I've just tried to do that and try and help the team as much as possible.

“I’ve been really happy with the performances this year.

“Hopefully, We can win the main award in the future, but it’s all about taking small steps and improving.

“I always love winning individual awards, it’s just nice to look at and see how far you've come so, yeah, I’m really pleased.”

For his part, City director of Football Txiki Begiristain said winning the prestigious award for a second successive season was not only testament to the Foden’s natural ability and hard work but also his consistent excellence.

“Phil helps embody the quality, drive and determination of every single player here at Manchester City.

“He is a special player with a special talent, but one who always puts the team first and strives to be best he can be every single day.

"And to be recognised by his professional colleagues once again says everything about the way he is regarded by his peers.

“It’s also another tribute to the amazing work of the Academy and the important role everyone there played in helping Phil make the progression through to the first team.

“He is an inspiration and shining example for every young player at the Club.

“Everyone at the Club is delighted at this latest award and congratulates Phil on another magnificent achievement.”
